Varieties of Pecans
We grow eight varieties of pecans on our farm as well as an additional two pecan varieties on the neighboring pecan farm we manage. Sometimes we refer to “varieties” as “cultivars.” These cultivars produce different sizes and taste profiles of pecans and also mature and are harvested at different times during the fall harvest season. All are excellent in their own way!
These eight cultivars include:
Pawnee - early season, highly desired
Desirable - midseason, large nut; has set the standard for decades
Cape Fear - midseason; one of our favorites for snacking
Excel - early season, beautiful color and bright taste
Sumner - late season, terrific flavor
Avalon - early season; a new variety we are excited to grow
Caddo - midseason, small nut; especially good for baking
Cunard - early season, large nut
